Places to Eat in Sunset Hills |
|
Growler’s Pub 3811 S Lindbergh Blvd St. Louis, MO 63127 Growler’s pub is famous for the 100 plus beers they have available, but they also have quite a good menu. This place has all the pub food favorites such as, French dip, hamburgers, and a fried chicken sandwich. I got the Louisiana Po’boy sandwich. It is a sandwich with spicy fried shrimp, served with some southwest sauce. I also had the fish tacos, which are very good also. This place has a huge beer garden for when the weather is nice. Prices are very comparable to any other bar or pub. I very much recommend this place for a place to drink or have a good lunch or dinner. |

O’Leary’s Restaurant 3828 S. Lindbergh Blvd St. Louis, MO 63127 O’Leary’s is up and running after it was damaged by a fire. The newly renovated inside gives it a much more open feel. This is a bar type atmosphere, but have a good variety on the menu. The food is very good. We got the lunch special and a Italian beef sandwich. The Irish stew that came with the lunch special was the best thing we had. It had beef, carrots, potatoes, and Guinness beer. The Italian beef was a pretty big sandwich and was better than I expected. I went back and got the southwest chicken wrap. It was alright but the stew was much better. Prices are around $7-9 for a sandwich and fries. I recommend eating at O’Leary’s. |

Steak ‘n Shake—Multiple Locations Steak n Shake does not want to be considered as a fast food restaurant, but if you have a drive through, it is fast food. Steak n Shake’s motto is “Famous for Steakburgers”. The steak burger is pretty good but not as good as Culver’s. Steak n Shake has great chili, and they have those unique fries that are really skinny. Steak n Shake is a good place to go and get some hearty food. Prices are reasonable. I ordered the cheeseburger platter and it cost around $6. I recommend going there. |

St. Louis Bread Company—Multiple Locations
The St. Louis Bread Co. has grown tremendously over the past 6 years or so, and they have become annoyingly big. Service has suffered, prices have risen and I can hardly find a place to sit at lunch time. I remember when I could place a special order and they would not mess anything up, now it is a rarity when I place a special order and something is not messed up. I also remember when two people could eat at The St. Louis Bread Co. and it would cost under $12, now it is hard for two people to eat there and it cost under $20. |

Jimmy John’s—Multiple Locations
Jimmy John’s is a sub sandwich shop that is fairly new to the St. Louis area. On the inside of the Jimmy John’s there are signs that try to be funny. Jimmy John’s claims to make subs “so fast you will freak.” It is not hard to make subs that fast when you have no options on what goes on the sub. I used to like Jimmy John’s when they first came to St. Louis, but then I thought why am I eating this when I could be eating Penn Station or the countless number of other sandwich shops which serve both hot and cold sandwiches. You can’t compare a Jimmy John’s to a Penn Station, Penn Station is 10 times better. I guess my problem with Jimmy John’s is that I got sick of their food. It doesn’t sound good to me anymore.
Jimmy John’s does have good bread. That is one thing that is good about them. They also have a variety of sandwiches, but it is basically a choice between cold turkey, roast beef, ham, or salami, and if I wanted one of those sandwiches I could find 10 other places I would rather get one. Their meats are average and the toppings are the usual lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. When I go I get the Bootlegger Club. This is a turkey and roast beef sandwich, but it doesn’t come with cheese, what a rip-off. I have to ask for cheese and it cost extra.
Prices: About $6.25 for a sandwich |

White Castle—Multiple Locations White Castle’s is one of St. Louis’ gems. What a great place to eat at any time of the day or night. It was about two o’clock in the morning, and we drove through White Castle. There is nothing better than their little jalapeno cheeseburgers and chicken rings with cheese at two in the morning. This was after a night of drinking at the baseball game and then drinking some more at a bar. Good thing I didn’t drive. There are only a limited number of restaurants that will hit the spot under these circumstances and White Castle is one of them. White Castle has some of the best drunk food ever. And the thing that is different about White Castle’s drunk food is that it still taste delicious when you are not drunk. For example, Eat Right has some of the best food at three in the morning, but there is no way I would set food in that place in daylight. The little White Castle hamburger is so tender and good it is like no other hamburger I have ever tasted. The menu has a ton of good food listed on it. Usually when I go to a place to eat I stick to one or two things, but at White Castle I can’t ever make up my mind. They have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, fish nibblers, chicken rings, cheese sticks, and more. We are lucky here in St. Louis because we are blessed with so many White Castles. If you go about 120 miles west to Columbia, Missouri you can’t find one anywhere. This is a disgrace because when I would go down there to visit I would get hammered and I would want some White Castle’s and I would always be disapointed by some place I would end up eating. Prices: Around 55-70 cents for a hamburger or cheeseburger. $2.50 for some chicken rings with cheese. Prices are very cheap. |
