Week of September 2, 2007 Kenrick’s Meat Market and Catering
Kenrick’s Meat Market and Catering is a small little market on Bayless or Weber road close to I-55 in South St. Louis County. It looks like they specialize in meats and small groceries. We went there for lunch and they have a little deli and sandwich stand with about 8 tables to sit and eat. The menu is loaded with different sandwiches like the special, loaded roast beef, chicken and bacon sandwiches, hot sandwiches. They have some good looking sides as well like baked macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy.
I ordered the country fried steak sandwich. This was a country fried steak with white gravy on a hoagie roll. This thing was delicious. For a side order I got the mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were ok, but the country fried steak sandwich was great. I definitely recommend going there for lunch and ordering one of there sandwiches. You have to get there early though, because this place gets a little crowded. This is a must eat lunch spot for me. What made it even better is the prices. My sandwich only cost me $4.89 where else can you get a great tasting HOT sandwich for this price. Next time I go, I am going to get a ribeye steak sandwich, which they have on the menu for a low $5.89. Is there anywhere else you can get a steak sandwich for that cheap? Visit their website at www.kenricks.com
Prices: Cheap. $6.25 for a country fried steak sandwich and some mashed potatoes. |

Week of August 5, 2007 Moe’s Mexican Grill—Multiple Locations Moe’s Mexican Grill is just like Q’doba or Chipotle, except Moe’s has a salsa bar and they give you chips for free. If Q’doba or Chipotle were to do these things then I would like them all the same. But I can pick my salsa and I get chips I like Moe’s better.
Similar to Q’doba or Chipotle, at Moe’s you pick the stuff you want or don’t want on your burrito, tacos, or nachos as you walk down the line. The only Moe’s that I know of around here is the one off Olive. It is packed at lunch time. I get what they call the “Home wrecker” It has your choice of meat, beans, rice, sour cream, and salsa. I usually add queso cheese on it as well. This burrito is so good, you better be hungry, because it is huge.
Prices: At Moe’s you will pay about $8.50 for a burrito, and a drink. |

Week of September 9, 2007 Hwy 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen
Hwy 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen is a fairly new place in Webster Groves in St. Louis. Go to this place hungry, because you will get a lot of food. This place goes for the southern setting. They serve hearty food that is very filling. Hwy 61 Roadhouse has live entertainment on the weekends. They have live blues and other bands on the small stage in the wide open dining room. On the huge wall behind the stage, there is a mural of all of the hotspots up and down the southern Mississippi River.
The food served at Hwy 61 Roadhouse is great. I ordered the pan fried chicken, and this was an order of three chicken breast, fried and served with white gravy. The crust was not too crusty but done just right. This comes with two sides. My favorite sides are the corn soufle, and teh macaroni and cheese. The corn souffle is cornbread with some corn baked into it. It has kind of a sweet flavor and is very good. The macaroni and cheese is very cheesy and topped with a crust. Other features on the menu are ribs, pork steak, shrimp, red beans and rice and countless other southern favorites. If you like southern cooking and getting alot of food then this is the place for you.
Prices: About $11 for three fried chicken breasts and two sides. This is a lot of food. |

Week of July 8th: Culvers Butterburgers and Frozen Custard Culver’s Restaurants are fairly new here in St. Louis. I know of three locations in St. Louis. There is one in South County, Fenton, and Arnold.
The Butterburger at Culver’s is the best thing to get. It taste like a Steak ‘N Shake burger but better. This is a fast food restaurant that serves food that is better than any fast food restaurant out there.
Prices: I got a butterburger, Fries and a drink for $4.80. Prices are really good for the quality of food you get. |

Week of July 15th Cunetto House of Pasta 5453 Magnolia Ave. St. Louis, MO 63139 Cunetto House of Pasta is located in the heart of “The Hill” in St. Louis. We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday night. Cunetto’s does not take reservations so we had to wait for an hour to be seated. It was not a bad wait, there were tables outside available to sit and have a drink. There was also a bar inside where they had cocktail waitresses serving drinks. Once we had our table the service was very quick.
I had the toasted raviolis, house salad, and the fettuccini carbonara. The toasted raviolis were just like any other toasted raviolis around St. Louis, but the meat sauce that came along with them was great. The house salad was very good it had a house Italian dressing and was covered in prosciutto and fresh parmesan cheese, not the powder kind. The best part was the Fettuccini Carbonara. This was a ton of fettuccini pasta covered in a cream sauce and prosciutto. The cream sauce was terrific. It was buttery and creamy at the same time. Since there was so much food the fettuccini was even better the next day. I also had Linguini Tuto Mare. This was a pile of linguine mixed with a butter sauce, crab, shrimp, clams, and shrimp. This would be a seafood lovers dream. The Tuto Mare is good, but I suggest ordering the Fettuccini Carbonara.
Prices: Prices were not bad for what we had. We had an appetizer , four beers, two salads, and two dishes of pasta, all for $50. I recommend going to this place. I can’t wait to go back again. |

Week of July 22 P’sghetti’s Pasta and Sandwiches Phone: 314-849-5332 5540 S. Lindbergh Blvd St. Louis, MO 63123 P’sghetti’s is a family run Italian restaurant. The style is laid back and the food and bread is delicious. P’sghetties is located in South County, by the intersection of Tesson Ferry and Lindbergh.
P’sghetti’s serves all of the Italian favorites, such as pasta, and garlic bread, but they also serve more than that. Other food that is on the menu includes, pizza bread, sub sandwich, cheese melt and more. The bread is what makes going to P’sghetti’s worth while. The bread is a little sweet and makes everything with taste so good. You must get something with the bread if you have not been here before.
Prices: Prices are very reasonable. I paid around $4 for a side of pasta and $2 for some garlic bread. At P’sghetti’s you order at the counter and then they call your number, you don’t have to deal with waiters. |

Week of July 28 White Castle—Multiple Locations White Castle’s is one of St. Louis’ gems. What a great place to eat at any time of the day or night. It was about two o’clock in the morning, and we drove through White Castle. There is nothing better than their little jalapeno cheeseburgers and chicken rings with cheese at two in the morning. This was after a night of drinking at the baseball game and then drinking some more at a bar. Good thing I didn’t drive. There are only a limited number of restaurants that will hit the spot under these circumstances and White Castle is one of them. White Castle has some of the best drunk food ever. And the thing that is different about White Castle’s drunk food is that it still taste delicious when you are not drunk. For example, Eat Right has some of the best food at three in the morning, but there is no way I would set food in that place in daylight. The little White Castle hamburger is so tender and good it is like no other hamburger I have ever tasted. The menu has a ton of good food listed on it. Usually when I go to a place to eat I stick to one or two things, but at White Castle I can’t ever make up my mind. They have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, fish nibblers, chicken rings, cheese sticks, and more. We are lucky here in St. Louis because we are blessed with so many White Castles. If you go about 120 miles west to Columbia, Missouri you can’t find one anywhere. This is a disgrace because when I would go down there to visit I would get hammered and I would want some White Castle’s and I would always be disapointed by some place I would end up eating. Prices: Around 55-70 cents for a hamburger or cheeseburger. $2.50 for some chicken rings with cheese. Prices are very cheap. |
