Places to Eat in Lake St. Louis

Lake St. Louis is about 35 miles west of St. Louis.  This is a growing community that is built around Lake St. Louis.

Steak ‘n Shake—Multiple Locations

Steak n Shake does not want to be considered as a fast food restaurant, but if you have a drive through, it is fast food.  Steak n Shake’s motto is “Famous for Steakburgers”.  The steak burger is pretty good but not as good as Culver’s.  Steak n Shake has great chili, and they have those unique fries that are really skinny.  Steak n Shake is a good place to go and get some hearty food.  Prices are reasonable.  I ordered the cheeseburger platter and it cost around $6.  I recommend going there.

Quizno’s—Multiple Locations

Quizno’s is a sandwich, subshop that specializes in toasted subs.  They have a variety of toasted subs, soups and salads.  They have chicken, turkey, roastbeef, and ham sandwiches.  I got the Turkey, Bacon, Guacamole sandwich.  This sandwich has turkey and bacon that is sent through the toaster.  After the toaster Quizno’s adds the veggies of your choice.  Prices are around $5 for a small sandwich, $7 for a medium and around $8.50 for a large sandwich.  I like to have a sandwich from here every once in a while, but I could not eat this place every day.

El Vaquero Mexican Restauant

8 Wentzville Center Dr.

Wentzville, MO 63385

I went to this Mexican restaurant for lunch, and it had all of the dishes you would expect at a Mexican restaurant.  It seems to me that all Mexican restaurants are all decorated the same these days.  The food was no different than any other Mexican restaurant, but you can’t beat the lunch special on Tuesdays.  I got the lunch fajitas for $5.50.  If you go here don’t expect anything exiting, but if you like Mexican food then you will like this place.

Jack in the Box—Multiple Locations

Jack in the Box is a fast food restaurant that has some great fried food.  The tacos are the best thing they have.  If you get the tacos you have to get the buttermilk ranch to go with it.  Prices are 99 cents for two tacos.  Jack in the Box has plenty of food on the dollar menu.  At the location in Wentzville don't expect to get your food quickly.  It took me 15 minutes to get four tacos and an order of small fries.  This is not fast for a fast food company.

St. Louis Bread Company—Multiple Locations

The St. Louis Bread Co. has grown tremendously over the past 6 years or so, and they have become annoyingly big. Service has suffered, prices have risen and I can hardly find a place to sit at lunch time. I remember when I could place a special order and they would not mess anything up, now it is a rarity when I place a special order and something is not messed up. I also remember when two people could eat at The St. Louis Bread Co. and it would cost under $12, now it is hard for two people to eat there and it cost under $20.

Enough about the bad. The St. Louis Bread Company is a very good place to eat. They serve good food. They have good sandwiches, salads and soups. You cannot go wrong with the french onion soup in a bread bowl. This is the best thing the Bread Co. serves. Also on the menu are good coffee drinks, if you like coffee.

Bucket’s Bar and Grill

Bucket's Pub and Grill
7843 Dardeen Town Sq
Dardenne Valley, MO 63368
Phone Number: 636-625-2727

Buckets is a new bar in a shopping center off of highway 40 towards Lake St. Louis. Inside Bucket's you will find a wide open bar area with a stage to the back. There are tables to the right and tables to the left past the bar. Bucket's goes with the theme of their name. They have light fixtures hanging from the ceiling that are made out of tin bucket's. They also advertise $10 buckets of beer. I don't know if five or six come with a bucket.

We went for lunch at about 11:30 and the place was empty. There were about two people sitting at the bar and that is about it. The menu is not to impressive. Bucket's has the usual bar food like all of the fried appetizers, hamburgers, chicken sandwich, and a steak sandwich. I went with the steak sandwich, and it was good. I did not expect it to be as good as it was, but don't get me wrong, it wasn't the best steak sandwich I have had. The steak sandwich comes on a hoagie with cheese and onion rings on top. It also came with a side of waffle fries, which were very good.

Prices: $16.60 for a steak sandwich with waffle fries, and a Chicken sandwich with a side salad
